In Durham, there are all sorts of options on ways to play, and that option extends to remote control cars. In fact, there's an event where folks can watch this spectacle themselves that is on track to be a recurring event.
Northgate Mall’s Ho-b Max, seller of a variety of battery-operated, electronic hobby crafts including airplanes, cars, boats, helicopters, rockets, tanks, and trains will host a free, family-friendly public 1/10 Scale Car Drift Racing Event with model drift cars on Saturday, May 18 from 12pm-4pm at Northgate Mall’s Center Court.
Northgate Mall visitors age ten (10) and up can sign up for five-minute rides with remote control drift cars from 12:00-3:30pm. From 3:30-4:00pm, Ho-b Max customers that bring their own drift car will race against Ho b Max employees.
Developed and popularized in Japan, car drifting is a driving technique that balances steering, accelerating, braking, and shifting to remain in the state of oversteer, or ‘drifting,’ where the driver intentionally causes loss of traction in the rear wheels, while maintaining control from entry to exit of a corner. A professional motorsport, drifting competitions are held worldwide and judged according to the speed, angle and line taken through a corner or set of corners. The Saturday, May 18 Ho-b Max Car Drifting Racing Event is free and open to the public and will take place in Center Court. Northgate Mall is located at 1058 West Club Boulevard, Durham. Ho-b Max is located across from the Northgate Food Gallery in space #516.
