SEEDS, Durham’s educational community garden will host the 5th Annual Pie Social on Sunday, May 19th from 1-5pm at the Pavilion at Durham Central Park. The SEEDS Pie Social benefits the Durham Inner-city Gardener Program, a youth-driven entrepreneurial leadership program.
For a $10 suggested donation, guests receive four tastes of delicious sweet and savory pies that are meat-filled, vegetarian and gluten-free. All of the pies are donated by local restaurants and home bakers. The goal is to raise $5,000 to support salaries for four youth leaders.

This will be a low waste event and guests are encouraged to bring their own plates and utensils and be rewarded with an extra ticket. There will be live music throughout the event by DJ Pappy. Tickets can be purchased in advance online, or in person on the day of the event.
This year is the first annual “Best of Pie” Contest sponsored by RISE Biscuits and Donuts bakery and local chef Tom Ferguson of Durham Catering Company. The “Best of Pie” Contest is open to all bakers, professional and amateur alike. The fee to enter is $10-25 sliding scale and the best pie will win a $500 cash prize. This year’s judging panel is Phoebe Lawless of Scratch Bakery, Sean Lilly Wilson of Full Steam Brewery, Nick Hawthorne-Johnson of The Cookery and one DIG youth.
