PARADOXOS Coming to Durham June 6-7

Durham's entrepreneurial scene is getting more entrepreneurial as it finds a way to thrive in the hectic mix of creativity and intellect that have become so embedded in Durham's brand. An event coming in June is an attempt to harness the potential inherent in that mix, and in true Durham style, it's quite likely to be amazing.

The first PARADOXOS, a two-day festival celebrating the power of ideas, collaboration, and what's to come will take place in Downtown Durham on June 6 and 7, 2013. Topics will include entrepreneurship, technology, food, beer, health, science, sports, arts, pets and music.

Where the Triangle was once dominated by a single industry, now the area's character depends on the flourishing of many. From music to tech and food to research, what unites all of our thinkers and doers is a willingness to dream big and a determination to turn ideas into reality. Despite all the creativity and ingenuity floating through the Triangle air, there has never been an opportunity for all ideas to converge in one place, under one roof. That is, not until now.

Thursday will kick off at Carolina Theatre with Triangle Startup Factory’s pitch day. Hear pitches from today’s entrepreneurs, also known as tomorrow’s success stories. They’ll tell us about their companies and the genius of their innovative ideas.

The festival will then move outdoors to CCB plaza. Here, some of the area’s most innovative companies will be paired alongside local breweries. Festivalgoers will be able to interact directly with entrepreneurs and thought leaders over a brew. The space will convert to a concert to celebrate the area’s eclectic tastes.

The Next is a series of short and medium length presentation talks on Friday about future perspectives on an array of topics that impact locally and globally. It will be held in Fletcher Hall at the Carolina Theatre. Speakers are already confirmed in the areas of public health, the arts, technology, agriculture and digital publishing.

The festival will conclude with sponsored block parties and music events around Durham’s center.
